Ashton Lodge Country House Wedding | Warwickshire Wedding Photographer

Last May, I had the pleasure of photographing a beautiful wedding at Ashton Lodge Country House, an elegant Edwardian wedding venue on the Warwickshire and Leicestershire border.

It was a particularly lovely wedding for me because I was working alongside my fabulous friend Holly Jo Photography. I believe this was actually our first wedding together at Ashton Lodge, so it was lovely for us both to discover a new venue and photograph Sian and Carl's day together.

We were also joined by the super talented Bronte of Tinbox Memories Videography, making it a wonderful team of creatives to be part of.

A relaxed wedding at Ashton Lodge Country House

As soon as I arrived at Ashton Lodge, I could see why it makes such a lovely setting for a wedding. The Edwardian country house has plenty of character, with elegant interiors, beautiful grounds and lots of those little details that make a wedding gallery feel connected to the place it happened.

But what I particularly loved about Sian and Carl's wedding was how relaxed everything felt.

There was no sense of the day being overly formal or staged. Instead, there was lots of laughter, plenty of happy conversation and those lovely in-between moments that happen when couples and their guests are simply enjoying being together.

And that's exactly the kind of wedding photography I love.

My approach is relaxed and documentary-led, allowing the day to unfold naturally rather than constantly pulling people away from what they're doing. I want to capture the big moments, of course but also the expressions, interactions and little snippets of the day that you might otherwise forget.

Photographing Sian and Carl's wedding

For this wedding, I photographed the groom preparations through to after the first dance, capturing plenty of candid moments throughout the day.

Holly concentrated on the group photographs, while I could concentrate on documenting everything happening around them such as the laughter, conversations, reactions and all the little moments in between.

Having two photographers working together like this can be a brilliant combination. It means we can divide up the coverage while still telling the complete story of the wedding day.

And working alongside Holly is always an absolute pleasure. We've photographed together on a number of occasions and having a friend beside you makes a busy wedding day even more enjoyable.

The reason I remember Sian and Carl's wedding so fondly isn't simply because Ashton Lodge provided a beautiful backdrop. It's because of the atmosphere of the day such as the people, the laughter, the emotion and the way everyone seemed to be completely invested in celebrating with them.

That's the part of wedding photography I love most.
