A Joyful Wedding at Bassmead Manor Barns | Cambridgeshire Wedding Photographer

Some weddings are particularly lovely to be part of, and this was definitely one of them.

I travelled over to Cambridgeshire to photograph a beautiful wedding at Bassmead Manor Barns near St Neots, working alongside Ryan Jarvis Photography. It was my first time visiting the venue and also my first wedding in Cambridgeshire, so I was excited to see somewhere completely new.

I remember arriving and immediately thinking what a beautiful place it was. There is something really special about Bassmead Manor Barns, with its historic buildings, beautiful grounds and relaxed countryside setting.

And thankfully, I haven't stopped thinking about it since.

Bassmead Manor Barns, Cambridgeshire

Bassmead Manor Barns is a beautiful wedding venue near St Neots, with a mixture of historic character and more contemporary spaces for weddings and celebrations.

The barns have so much character, with exposed oak beams, wooden floors and all those little details that make a wedding venue feel special rather than simply being a space to hold a reception.

The Rickety Barn, in particular, has a lovely atmosphere for a wedding ceremony, with its original beams, chandeliers and fairy lights.

I thoroughly enjoyed photographing here and it was one of those first visits where I came away hoping I'd have the chance to return.

Sadly, I haven't made it back yet, but I would absolutely love another Bassmead Manor Barns wedding.

A very special wedding day

This was a particularly special day for the couple and their family and friends, and there was a lovely sense of celebration throughout the wedding.

I photographed the day in the way I naturally work, concentrating on the people, the atmosphere and everything that was happening around me rather than turning the day into a series of posed photographs.

There were, of course, some natural couple portraits too, but most of my time was spent watching what was happening and capturing those moments as they unfolded.

For me, that is where so much of the story of a wedding lives.

The laughter, the conversations, the reactions and the things that nobody has planned.

The singing waiter

And then, after dinner, came a rather brilliant surprise.

A singing waiter appeared and very quickly had the guests on their feet.

What followed was exactly the sort of reception I love photographing. There was music, singing, dancing and even a Conga, with everyone getting involved and enjoying themselves.

One particular lady guest really embraced the dancing and absolutely got into the spirit of the evening. She was brilliant to photograph and I think her dancing deserves a special mention!

It was one of those moments where you can stand back with your camera and just watch everyone having a fantastic time.

And that is the beauty of photographing weddings in this way. You never quite know what is going to happen next.

A Bassmead Manor Barns wedding I'd love to repeat

Bassmead Manor Barns was a new venue for me and I thoroughly enjoyed working there.

Although I haven't had the opportunity to return since this wedding, it is definitely somewhere I would be very happy to photograph again.

If you're planning a wedding in Cambridgeshire, particularly around St Neots, Bassmead Manor Barns is a beautiful setting for a day that feels personal, relaxed and full of celebration.

And if your wedding includes a singing waiter and a guest who really knows how to dance, even better!

Less posing. More feeling.
