A Unique Bedford Town Wedding | Bedfordshire Wedding Photographer
There are some weddings that are just a little bit different, and this Bedford wedding has always been one of those that has stayed with me.
I photographed this one in the summer of 2019 while assisting my good friend Ryan Jarvis, and I absolutely loved the whole feel of the day. It was relaxed, personal and full of places and little details that made it completely their own.
Getting ready in Bedford
I started the day photographing the groom getting ready before making my way into Bedford town centre for the ceremony.
I had never visited Bedford before, so it was lovely to have the chance to explore a little as I went. The ceremony took place at Bedford Town Hall, right in the heart of the town, and then came one of my favourite moments of the day.
Alex arrived in a horse drawn carriage.
Being horsey myself, I was always going to love that!
It was such a lovely way for her to arrive and I remember thinking how fantastic she looked as she made her way into the Town Hall. Her satin wedding dress and veil looked beautiful too, with the wind giving the veil a life of its own.
A wedding in the park
After the ceremony we headed to The Pavilion, a really lovely and unusual wedding venue tucked away in the park.
I loved the change of atmosphere. After being in the middle of Bedford for the ceremony, suddenly there was greenery, open space and a much more relaxed feel.
The couple enjoyed their wedding breakfast here and after the speeches there was no formal end to the day. Instead, everyone headed back into town for the evening celebration.
The Auction House
The evening reception was held at The Auction House, the couple's favourite watering hole.
And wow, what a place.
It was quirky, characterful and completely different from a traditional wedding reception venue. It felt like such a perfect choice for them because it was somewhere they already loved spending time together.
That is probably what I remember most about this wedding. It wasn't about following a particular formula. The couple chose places that meant something to them and the whole day flowed between them.
From a horse drawn carriage arriving at Bedford Town Hall, to a wedding breakfast in the park and then drinks and celebrations at their favourite place in town, it was a brilliant example of how personal a wedding can be.
And honestly, I loved it.
I photographed this wedding as a second photographer alongside Ryan, but I've always been drawn to weddings that feel like this. Relaxed, personal and a little bit different.
Less posing. More feeling.
