I had the pleasure of photographing a beautiful wedding at Coton House Farm Exclusive Use Wedding Barn, a lovely countryside wedding venue in the village of Whittington, just outside Lichfield in Staffordshire.

It was my first time photographing a wedding at Coton House Farm, and I was immediately taken with its relaxed, rustic feel. It felt like one of those places where couples can really make their wedding their own somewhere that suits a laid-back celebration rather than a day that feels overly formal or staged.

A rainy wedding day full of happiness

My morning started at Liam's parents' house, photographing the preparations before heading on to Coton House Farm for the wedding.

I was also lucky enough to be working alongside the wonderful Holly Jo Photography again. We make a pretty amazing team, and it's always lovely when I get to work alongside another photographer whose approach I enjoy.

This wedding marked the end of a particularly busy May for me. I'd photographed five weddings in a row, with a horse photoshoot squeezed in between, so it was quite a whirlwind of a month!

And then, of course, the rain arrived.

But honestly? It really didn't matter.

The bride and groom were in such high spirits that nothing was going to dampen their excitement. There was plenty of laughter throughout the day and that wonderful feeling that comes when a couple are simply enjoying every minute of their wedding.

One of the things that really stood out to me about Coton House Farm was the outdoor terrace.

On a rainy wedding day, having somewhere for guests to shelter during those passing showers makes such a difference. It meant everyone could still enjoy being outside without having to worry too much about what the weather was doing.

And let's talk about Sascha's wedding dress for a moment...

I mean, who doesn't want pockets in their wedding dress?!

Sascha looked absolutely stunning, and I'm always a fan of a bride who has somewhere handy to put a few essentials without needing to carry a handbag around all day.

Relaxed wedding photography at Coton House Farm

One of the things I love most about being a wedding photographer is that I'm not just there to photograph the ceremony.

I'm there to tell the story of the day like an extended member of the family capturing the people, the laughter, the little moments, the atmosphere and all those things that make a wedding your wedding.

Coton House Farm provided a lovely backdrop for the couple portraits, with its relaxed countryside surroundings and rustic character. And because my approach to wedding photography is relaxed and documentary-led, it was the perfect kind of setting for photographs that felt natural rather than overly posed.

The couple portraits don't need to take ages either. I want couples to get back to their guests and enjoy their wedding day, so I keep this part relaxed, natural and relatively short.
