A Beautiful Ravenwood Hall Wedding | Suffolk Wedding Photographer

the exterior of Ravenwood Hall in Bury St Edmunds Suffolk

There are some wedding venues that you visit once and immediately think, “I’d love to come back here.”

Ravenwood Hall was definitely one of those for me.

I photographed this beautiful Suffolk wedding in the summer of 2019 while working alongside my good friend Ryan Jarvis as his second photographer. It was a long drive from my little corner of Swadlincote in Derbyshire, but it was very definitely worth the journey.

This was my first visit to Ravenwood Hall and I wasn't disappointed.

A wedding at Ravenwood Hall

Ravenwood Hall is a beautiful historic wedding venue near Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk, surrounded by lovely grounds and full of character. Parts of the Hall date back to the time of Henry VIII, so there is plenty of history here too.

The wedding itself took place in the Pavilion, so although I didn't get the chance to explore every part of the Hall, I certainly got a good feel for the venue and its surroundings.

It really is a lovely setting for a wedding.

Relaxed wedding photography

One of the things I particularly enjoyed about this wedding was the opportunity to photograph the day in the way I naturally work.

There were lots of candid moments, little interactions between guests and all the things happening around the couple throughout the day. Even though I was working as a second photographer, my approach was much the same as it would be when I'm photographing a wedding as the lead.

The main difference was that I wasn't at the front during the ceremony and I wasn't responsible for the formal group photographs, which meant I could concentrate even more on everything happening around the edges of the day.

And there was plenty to photograph.

And then there were the Minis...

The couple were classic Mini enthusiasts and their love of the cars made an appearance during the wedding day.

I have to admit, I loved this little personal touch. It's these things that make a wedding feel like it belongs to the couple rather than simply being a day that happens to take place at a beautiful venue.

There were plenty of lovely moments throughout the day, from the quieter interactions to the celebrations with family and friends, and Ravenwood Hall provided a fantastic backdrop for all of it.

Looking back at these photographs now, I can still remember how much I enjoyed this wedding.

It was a privilege to be asked by Ryan to second shoot for him and it was also a brilliant introduction to Ravenwood Hall.

I'd love to photograph another wedding here one day, this time as the lead photographer.

For now, here are some of my favourites from this beautiful Suffolk wedding.

Less posing. More feeling.
