A Relaxed Staffordshire Wedding at Abbots Bromley Church and a Farm Reception

Anna & Ed – A Staffordshire Farm Wedding

I had the pleasure of joining Anna & Ed for their beautiful wedding in Staffordshire, beginning with a heartfelt ceremony in the charming village church of St Nicholas in Abbots Bromley. The doorway was adorned with summer blooms, creating a soft, welcoming frame for all their guests to see before witnessing the beautiful marriage of Anna and Ed.

Before the big day, I met Anna with Holly for a pre-wedding chat. It was a lovely chance to connect, explain my documentary approach, and understand how Ed preferred a relaxed, candid style. From the start, we all felt comfortable, and I knew this day would be full of natural, story-driven moments.

The day began with Ed and his groomsmen at the local pub, full of laughter and anticipation. Their entrance was unforgettable, a tractor and trailer ride to the church, setting a fun, relaxed tone for the celebration.

After the ceremony, we headed to the bride’s family farm now a residence but full of personal meaning for Anna, who grew up there with her horses before moving to Cheshire to continue her dressage journey. While I didn’t photograph Anna with her horses, it was wonderful to see her in a setting so close to her heart.

The reception took place in a large marquee next to the house. Guests were treated to singing waiters, creating an energetic, joyful atmosphere that flowed naturally throughout the evening. Ed wasn’t keen on posed photography, which suited my documentary style perfectly, I captured candid interactions, laughter, and genuine connections without interrupting the flow of the day. Oh and the speeches, they were both touching and funny particularly Ed’s best men.

Working alongside Holly Jo Photography again was a joy (as it always is as we’ve become great working buddies in the years we have known each other). While she captured flat lays, family portraits, and posed moments, I focused on capturing the real, heartfelt story of the day. The team also included a brilliant videographer, Danny from Lavalette Productions, keeping everything seamless and relaxed. If you have not seen his work, it is epic so I do highly recommend him for something very different.

My coverage finished a few songs after the first dance, having captured the essence of their day, personal, joyful, and true to life. Anna and Ed’s wedding was a perfect reminder of why I love documentary wedding photography: every moment is unique, every couple’s story deserves to be told authentically.

If you’re planning a wedding in Staffordshire — from a village church ceremony to a personal farm reception — I’d love to help capture your day naturally, in a relaxed documentary style that reflects your story and your guests’ experiences.
