The Proposal

Every love story has a magical beginning, and Claire and Mark’s is particularly heartwarming. After a heavy snowstorm and a snowman built the evening before, Mark proposed in Claire’s childhood bedroom at her mum’s house. Such a sweet, intimate moment – the perfect start to their journey together.

The Wedding Day

Claire, Mark, and their closest family began preparations at Olive Lodge near Melbourne. Claire was tucked away in the gorgeous wedding suite, complete with a gigantic four-poster bed. Her elegant Pronovias gown from Silk Brides in Lichfield was timeless and stunning, perfectly complementing the classic winter wedding vibe. Mark looked equally dashing in his black dinner jacket and bow tie – a look that never goes out of style.

After family portraits and final touches, we made our way to Amalfi White for the ceremony and celebrations. This was a late afternoon December wedding, with the ceremony starting around 3:00 pm. The shorter winter daylight meant we were racing the fading light for some key portraits, but it also created a soft, romantic glow perfect for intimate moments.

Amalfi White – Melbourne, Derbyshire

Amalfi White is one of my local favourite venues, just 20 minutes from home, and it’s easy to see why couples love it. The upstairs Ballroom is airy, full of light, and ideal for elegant celebrations, even in late December. With gardens nearby and a lake just behind Melbourne Church, it’s perfect for those dreamy couple moments, though the December storm meant we mostly stayed inside.

Despite the gusty winds and occasional showers, we embraced the weather and captured some magical shots outdoors. Claire and Mark kept family portraits minimal, focusing on authentic moments and storytelling rather than posed photos.

A Day Full of Love

The speeches were heartfelt and memorable, from Claire’s dad to Claire herself. I adore when brides share their own words of love. Mark’s speech followed, along with the best man’s. The couple even opted out of a first dance, letting everyone hit the floor straight away, a personal, relaxed choice that made the day even more unique.

Even with a late winter ceremony and twilight approaching around 4:00 pm, the day flowed beautifully. The storm added drama and movement to the photos, perfectly complementing the couple’s joyful energy and intimate celebration.

All in all, Claire and Mark’s winter wedding at Amalfi White was cosy, heartfelt and unforgettable, a perfect showcase for couples planning a late afternoon December wedding.
