A Beautifully Intimate Micro Wedding at Coalville Registry Office

There is something rather lovely about a wedding that is completely and utterly about the people getting married.

No huge guest list. No elaborate production. No pressure to spend the day entertaining hundreds of people.

Just two people, their closest friends, a beautiful setting and plenty of time to enjoy being together.

That was exactly the feeling of this intimate micro wedding at Coalville Registry Office last July.

I can't share photographs showing the couple's faces in this blog because they have chosen to keep their identities private, and that is something I completely respect. They have very kindly given me permission to share a selection of non-facial images instead, and I think they still tell a lovely story about their day.

A wedding that was all about the two of them

This couple's story began during those strange Covid years, when life was anything but normal. At the time, the bride was living and working in London, and eventually their relationship led them to this very special day in Leicestershire.

Their wedding was wonderfully intimate, surrounded by their closest friends and the people who mattered most to them.

And honestly? I loved it.

Micro weddings have a very different rhythm to larger weddings. There is often more opportunity to actually be presentwith the people around you. There isn't the same pressure to fit everything into a huge running order, and the day can feel incredibly personal.

That is one of the reasons I love photographing them.

Fabulous outfits and a little bit of personality

I absolutely loved the couple's outfits.

The bride wore a gorgeous mottled green crushed velvet V-neck dress, paired with fabulous Irregular Choice shoes. If you've ever seen Irregular Choice bridal shoes, you'll know they are not exactly designed to disappear into the background!

The groom complemented her beautifully in a green suit, giving the whole look a wonderfully coordinated but individual feel.

It was stylish without feeling overly formal, and very much suited to them.

And that's another thing I love about smaller weddings: there is often more freedom to make the day feel like you, rather than feeling as though you have to follow a traditional wedding formula.

From Coalville to Market Bosworth

After the ceremony at Coalville Registry Office, the celebrations continued with a meal at Softley's in Market Bosworth.

It was the perfect continuation of such a relaxed day – good food, close friends and time to celebrate without rushing from one wedding tradition to the next.

We also managed to sneak away for some portraits at Bosworth Park.

And it was SUNNY.

Very, very sunny!

But rather than worrying about finding perfect conditions, we simply made the most of it. There was plenty of laughter and a bit of wandering around, and we created some lovely relaxed portraits along the way.

This is pretty much how I like couple photography to work.

I don't want to spend twenty minutes arranging you into increasingly awkward poses while you wonder what on earth you are supposed to do with your hands.

I'll give you a little direction when you need it, but the aim is always to keep things natural, relaxed and connected.

Why I love micro weddings

I've photographed weddings in all sorts of settings and at very different scales, but micro weddings and intimate weddings really do have a special place in my heart.

There is something wonderfully uncomplicated about them.

Whether you're getting married at a registry office with your closest friends, having a small ceremony followed by a favourite restaurant, or planning an intimate celebration somewhere completely unique, you don't need a huge wedding to create incredible memories – or beautiful photographs.

And although I can't show you the full story of this particular couple because they have chosen to keep their identities private, I hope these images still give you a little glimpse into their day.

Because a small wedding can still be epic.

The laughter. The details. The outfits. The flowers. The hands held during the ceremony. The walk afterwards. The little moments between the people who came to celebrate with you.

Those things don't depend on how many guests are on the wedding list.

They depend on how much the day means to you.

And that's what I love photographing.
