Small Wedding, Big Emotions | Heather & Harrison's Micro Wedding at Kilworth House
A Beautiful Micro Wedding at Kilworth House
Not every wedding needs hundreds of guests to be unforgettable.
Heather and Harrison proved that perfectly with their beautiful micro wedding at Kilworth House in Leicestershire. Surrounded by just eight people, including themselves, they celebrated their marriage with the people who matter most, creating a day filled with genuine emotion, laughter and meaningful moments.
As a documentary wedding photographer, these are the weddings I absolutely love photographing. Nothing feels rushed, there's time to appreciate every little moment, and the focus is completely on the people rather than the schedule.
A Relaxed Morning at Kilworth House
I joined Heather for the final preparations before the ceremony. Rather than hiring a professional hair and makeup artist, Heather chose to do her own makeup and style her own hair, with a little help from her mum when needed.
One of my favourite details from the morning was discovering that Heather had found her wedding dress in a local charity shop. It suited her perfectly and is a wonderful reminder that creating your dream wedding doesn't have to mean spending a fortune. Sometimes the most special pieces are the ones you least expect to find.
Meanwhile, Harrison was enjoying a much quieter morning, taking everything in while putting the finishing touches to his speech.
A Ceremony Filled with Emotion
With just their nearest and dearest present, the ceremony felt incredibly personal.
Heather became visibly emotional as she read her vows, and it wasn't long before members of both families were reaching for tissues too. There wasn't a dry eye in the room.
These are exactly the moments I love documenting—real expressions, genuine reactions and memories that become even more valuable with time.
Relaxed Portraits Around Kilworth House
After the ceremony we explored the beautiful grounds and elegant interiors of Kilworth House.
Heather and Harrison didn't need much direction. They simply enjoyed being together, chatting, laughing and soaking up the fact they had just become husband and wife. Those authentic interactions always create my favourite photographs.
Of course, I couldn't resist using the magnificent staircase inside Kilworth House. We also recreated a photograph taken many years earlier of Heather's parents on their own wedding day at the same venue, using one of the beautiful mirrors inside the house.
Knowing that her parents had celebrated their wedding here too made the location even more meaningful. It was a lovely way to honour family history while creating a new memory for the next generation.
Why I Love Photographing Micro Weddings
I've photographed weddings of every size, but micro weddings have a unique atmosphere that's difficult to describe until you've experienced one.
There is more time to spend with the people you love, less pressure to follow traditions that don't feel right, and every conversation feels meaningful. Whether your guest list is six people or sixty, your wedding day deserves to be documented with the same care and attention.
If you're planning a small wedding at Kilworth House or anywhere across Leicestershire, Derbyshire or the Midlands, I'd love to tell your story in a relaxed, natural way.
Because at the end of the day, weddings aren't about numbers.
They're about people.
