Relaxed Summer Wedding at Crewe Hall | Cheshire Documentary Wedding Photography
A Relaxed Summer Wedding at Crewe Hall
There's something incredibly special about a wedding where everyone simply relaxes and enjoys themselves, and this beautiful summer wedding at Crewe Hall was exactly that.
Back in July 2022, I joined the wonderful Holly as her second photographer to document a truly joyful celebration at one of Cheshire's most impressive wedding venues. While Holly focused on key moments throughout the day, my role was to quietly capture all the genuine interactions, laughter and little in-between moments that tell the complete story of a wedding.
As a documentary wedding photographer, those are often my favourite photographs.
From the anticipation while everyone got ready through to guests catching up in the gardens and enjoying the evening celebrations, there was a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere that made photographing this wedding an absolute pleasure.
A Bride, Two Dresses... and Plenty of Personality
One of my favourite parts of the day was seeing the bride wear not one but two gorgeous wedding dresses.
Her ceremony gown was elegant and timeless, while her evening dress brought a completely different feel to the celebrations with layers upon layers of beautiful tulle that looked incredible on the dance floor.
It's always lovely seeing couples make their wedding completely their own and changing into a second dress meant she could enjoy every moment of the evening in comfort while creating another unforgettable look.
Keeping Guests Entertained
Rather than leaving guests wondering what to do between different parts of the day, there was a fantastic selection of vintage garden games set up outside.
Giant Jenga, Hook a Duck and a Coconut Shy quickly became gathering points, with guests of every age joining in.
As a documentary photographer, these moments are gold. They create natural laughter, genuine reactions and wonderful interactions between family and friends that often become some of the most treasured photographs from the day.
Documentary Wedding Photography Means Real Moments
The beauty of documentary wedding photography is that nothing needs to be staged.
Instead of asking people to pose constantly, I look for real emotions, spontaneous laughter, proud parents watching from afar, children playing on the lawn, hugs between friends and those quiet moments that often pass unnoticed on the day itself.
These are the photographs that transport you back years later.
Beautiful Weddings Come in Every Shape, Size and Story
One of the things I love most about photographing weddings is that every couple is unique.
This wedding is a lovely reminder that beautiful wedding photographs aren't about looking like models from a magazine. They're about celebrating two people exactly as they are, surrounded by the people who love them.
I hope couples browsing this gallery can see themselves in these images and imagine their own day unfolding naturally, without pressure to pose or fit a particular mould.
Everyone deserves photographs that make them feel amazing.
