I had the absolute joy of documenting Charlie & Lewis’s wedding at The West Mill, one of Derbyshire’s most stunning and unique wedding venues. Nestled in the historic hamlet of Darley Abbey, this Grade I listed former cotton mill combines industrial charm with timeless elegance—making it the perfect backdrop for heartfelt, natural wedding photography.
I was second shooting alongside Holly Whitehall Photography and while there were no morning preparations for me to capture, I was able to focus on the story of the day from guest arrivals all the way through to the first dance. Every moment, from smiles to laughter, felt full of love and emotion.
Charlie looked absolutely breathtaking in her figure-hugging dress and classic hair updo—there’s something about the combination of her natural elegance and the light-filled interiors of The West Mill that made photographing her an absolute dream. Lewis’s quiet moments and their shared glances made for authentic, natural portraits that really reflect who they are as a couple.
What I love most about The West Mill is how the venue itself tells a story. With barrel-vaulted ceilings, exposed brick walls, and cast-iron beams, the building’s industrial architecture offers incredible natural light and a dramatic backdrop for portraits. Whether it’s a quiet moment between the couple or the lively energy of the celebrations, this venue enhances every shot. And the views of the River Derwent with the historic weir? Simply magical.
