Beautiful Dorfold Hall in Cheshire
A Spring Wedding at Dorfold Hall
Last spring, I had the chance to photograph a beautiful wedding at Dorfold Hall in Cheshire—and it was one of those days that stays with you.
It was my first time visiting Dorfold Hall, and honestly, I was completely in awe. From the moment you arrive, there’s a real sense of history and quiet elegance. It’s the kind of venue that feels both grand and welcoming at the same time—perfect for couples planning a relaxed, countryside wedding with a touch of timeless charm.
A Dream Team with Stott Weddings
I was there alongside my friend Deb from Stott Weddings, and we always work so naturally together. Having someone you trust by your side on a wedding day makes such a difference—not just for us, but for the couple too. Everything flows, nothing feels forced, and it allows the day to unfold exactly as it should.
A Perfect Spring Wedding Day
The weather couldn’t have been better—soft spring light, warm air, and that fresh, just-blooming feeling you only get at that time of year. Guests were relaxed, laughter came easily, and there was such a genuine sense of joy throughout the day.
These are the moments I love most. Not staged or overly directed—just real memories, happening naturally.
A Documentary Approach to the Day
I started the day with the groom and his groomsmen, capturing those quieter, behind-the-scenes moments before everything begins. There’s always a lovely mix of anticipation and humour during this part of the day.
From there, I documented everything right through to the speeches—which were a perfect balance of hilarious and emotional (always my favourite combination).
My approach is always to keep things natural and storytelling-led. I’m not there to interrupt or overly pose—I simply observe, gently guide when needed, and capture the moments as they unfold.
Why I Love Documentary Wedding Photography
Being a documentary wedding photographer is incredibly rewarding.
It’s about more than just photographs—it’s about people. The conversations, the connections, the little in-between moments that might otherwise go unnoticed.
I often find guests are curious about my camera (it does have a bit of a film-camera feel to it), and that naturally opens up conversations. Those small interactions help people feel at ease, which is when the most genuine moments happen.
