A Relaxed Autumn Wedding at The Hurt Arms, Ambergate

Bride and groom just married at the Hurt Arm Ambergate

There’s something incredibly special about an autumn wedding in Derbyshire, the soft golden light, the relaxed atmosphere, and that unmistakable sense of warmth as everyone gathers together.

Nina and David’s wedding at The Hurt Arms was exactly that.

Set within the beautiful Ambergate valley, The Hurt Arms blends rustic character with a contemporary feel, creating a relaxed and welcoming space for couples who want a day that feels effortless and genuinely theirs.

This was my first time photographing a wedding at the venue, and I couldn’t have asked for a better introduction.

After a short reschedule due to the pandemic, their day went ahead surrounded by all their favourite people—and you could feel just how much it meant to everyone to finally be together.

The atmosphere throughout the day was incredibly easy-going. Guests spent time outside in the gardens, enjoying the crisp October air, playing lawn games, and simply being present. It’s moments like these that really define a wedding story—not just the big events, but everything in between.

The flower girls fully embraced the space (and the freedom!), bringing such a lovely energy to the day.

From a photography perspective, this is exactly the kind of wedding I love to document. Nothing forced, nothing overly staged—just real moments unfolding naturally.

While my approach is largely documentary, I always make time for a short, relaxed couple portrait session when it feels right. Nina and David’s portraits were simple, natural, and completely reflective of them.

The Hurt Arms is a fantastic choice for couples planning a laid-back Derbyshire wedding, especially if you’re drawn to a venue that allows your day to unfold naturally without feeling overly structured.

If you’re still looking for a wedding photographer that is natural, relaxed and friendly with no cheesy poses, I may be just what you’re looking for.
