A Festive December Wedding at The Mill Barns, Shropshire

There’s something rather lovely about a December wedding, particularly when Christmas decorations, twinkling lights and the early winter darkness become part of the atmosphere. This December 2023 wedding at The Mill Barns in Shropshire was full of warmth, laughter and plenty of festive touches.

My day began with the groom and his groomsmen getting ready in the bridal suite. It was a relaxed start to the day, with plenty of laughter, anticipation and those final adjustments to ties and cufflinks before the ceremony.

After being together for around 20 years, our couple finally got to say "I do", making the day an especially meaningful celebration of their relationship. Their connection was lovely to photograph so natural, genuine and clearly built on many years together.

Inside the barn, the Christmas tree was a real feature of the day. Beneath it, the couple had thoughtfully placed wrapped presents for every child attending the wedding, which was such a lovely and personal touch.

The ceremony was heartfelt and emotional, followed by drinks, laughter and time spent together as the daylight gradually disappeared.

One of the things I enjoy about winter weddings is that the changing light becomes part of the story. The evenings arrive earlier, fairy lights begin to sparkle and the whole day takes on a cosy, intimate feel.

I stayed through the speeches, capturing the smiles, tears and plenty of laughter before it was time for me to pack away my cameras. My second photographer and lovely friend, Samantha J Photography, gave me the nod that I could head home although, as always, we had plenty of fun working together throughout the day.

This was a December wedding full of heart, thoughtful details and festive atmosphere and such a lovely reminder that winter weddings can have a character all of their own.
