A Mill Barns Valentine’s Wedding -Shropshire Wedding Photography

There are some wedding dates that feel particularly special and Valentine's Day has to be one of them. Back in February 2023 I had the pleasure of photographing Leah and Sophie's beautiful same sex wedding at Mill Barns in Shropshire.

Set in the countryside, Mill Barns is an exclusive use wedding venue with plenty of character and space for couples to make the day their own. It was the perfect setting for a Valentine's Day celebration, with plenty of love, laughter and a few very special four legged guests along for the ride.

A relaxed Valentine's Day wedding

I was working alongside my friend Sam of Samantha J Photography for the day and together we captured the wedding as it unfolded, keeping things relaxed and natural rather than overly staged.

Leah and Sophie had a lovely, genuine connection and their ceremony was full of emotion. There were plenty of those little moments that can so easily be missed when everyone is concentrating on getting the perfect photograph, which is exactly why I love being able to photograph weddings in a way that allows couples to simply enjoy what is happening around them.

Their two assistance dogs were also an important part of the day and it was lovely to see them included in the celebrations. They brought an extra sense of personality to the photographs and were very much part of Leah and Sophie's story.

An LGBTQ+ wedding at Mill Barns

I have always believed that wedding photography should be about the people in front of my camera, not about fitting couples into a particular idea of what a wedding should look like.

Whether you're planning a same sex wedding, a more traditional celebration, an elopement or something completely your own, I'm interested in photographing the two of you as you actually are.

This was my first Valentine's Day wedding and it was a lovely reminder that there really is no better way to spend the day than surrounded by people who are completely invested in celebrating your relationship.

Mill Barns wedding photography

Mill Barns is a venue I know well, having photographed weddings there as a primary photographer as well as working alongside other photographers. The combination of the countryside setting, the character of the buildings and the fact that couples have exclusive use makes it a popular choice for weddings in Shropshire.

But whether your wedding is at Mill Barns or somewhere completely different, my approach remains the same.

I'm there to photograph the atmosphere, the people you love, the ridiculous moments, the happy tears and all the things that make your wedding yours. I'll give you some gentle direction when you need it, but I'm not going to spend your wedding day turning it into one long photoshoot.

For me, it's less posing and more feeling.

If you're planning an LGBTQ+ wedding at Mill Barns or elsewhere in Shropshire and you're looking for relaxed, natural wedding photography that feels like you, I'd love to hear about your plans.
