A Relaxed & Stylish West Mill Wedding in Derby

Confetti throw with the bride and groom at The West Mill in Derby

If there’s one venue I’m always drawn back to, it’s The West Mill.

Set right on the edge of Derby, it’s a space that feels both striking and effortlessly relaxed where industrial character meets warm, thoughtful design. The soft light, exposed brick and layered floors create a setting that lends itself beautifully to natural, storytelling photography.

For couples planning a wedding here, it offers something truly special: a day that flows with ease, where every part of the celebration feels considered yet unforced.

There’s a quiet confidence about The West Mill. From the atmosphere to the food, every detail comes together in a way that allows you and your guests to simply enjoy the moment.

And from a photographer’s perspective, it’s a dream.

Whether it’s the soft window light during morning preparations, the intimate ceremony space, or the character-filled corners perfect for relaxed portraits, there’s an effortless variety to the day. Even in the rain, the venue comes into its own offering beautiful, creative possibilities without ever needing to step outside.

This particular wedding was one of several I photographed at The West Mill that summer and it remains a favourite.

I joined as a second photographer alongside my good friend, the incredibly talented Holly. Working together allows the day to be documented with a natural depth capturing not only the key moments but also the quieter, often unseen interactions that make a wedding truly personal.

My role is always to observe, to notice the in-between moments, the laughter, the emotion, and the atmosphere as it naturally unfolds. It’s a documentary approach that complements the day without ever interrupting it.

So, rather than telling you too much…

I’ll let the images speak for themselves.
