In March 2022, I had the pleasure of capturing a beautiful spring celebrant-led wedding at Hanbury Barns Wedding Venue in Staffordshire alongside good friend Holly Jo Photography.

This wedding was filled with genuine emotion, contagious laughter and an abundance of gin to set the mood just right.

From my perspective as a documentary wedding photographer, this day was all about natural, unscripted moments. I focus on observing rather than directing, allowing the story of the day to unfold organically so it can be captured honestly and beautifully.

What made this wedding even more special was the celebrant-led ceremony. This allowed the couple to create a deeply personal and meaningful exchange of vows, making the moment feel incredibly intimate and authentic.

Hanbury Barns in Staffordshire is a stunning venue for relaxed, rustic weddings and it was the perfect backdrop for this kind of celebration. The atmosphere throughout the day felt calm, emotional, and full of connection.

Natural moments, laughter & celebration

Throughout the day, it was clear how much love surrounded this couple. From heartfelt speeches to emotional moments shared between family and friends, there was so much sincerity woven into every part of the wedding.

And then there was the laughter.

From dance floor energy to playful moments between the bride and groom, the entire day was filled with joy and movement. These are the moments I naturally look for as a documentary wedding photographer; real, unposed and full of life.

My approach to wedding photography

My goal is always to capture weddings in an honest and storytelling-led way. I don’t overly direct or stage moments instead, I focus on real interactions, emotion and atmosphere.
