Helen & Shaun’s Relaxed Crowland Abbey Wedding
I just want to say this was such a fun, fun, fun wedding where smiles were never ending! Here’s what the couple had to say….
“Well, where do I start..Tracey the most patient, kind lady with such a talent. We sadly had to postpone the wedding twice due to the pandemic and Tracey couldn’t do enough for us, she was flexible and understanding, reassuring and positive. We arranged a pre wedding shoot which was a distance for her to travel but that wasn’t an issue at all. Then the big day, it was like having an old friend with us on the day. Tracey quickly became part of our wedding party and many of my friends and family credited her for being so professional as well as funny and up for a good time. She managed to flutter about the day capturing the most wonderful candid shots of all our loved ones. Nothing was too much and her laugh is everything. The photos are overwhelming. We couldn’t have asked for anything more. Thank you forever Tracey” ”
A Relaxed, Joy-Filled Wedding at Crowland Abbey
Some weddings stay with you, not because of perfection, but because of how they felt.
Helen and Shaun’s day was exactly that.
Full of laughter, a few nerves, plenty of fizz… and a dance floor moment that no one will ever forget.
How It All Began
Helen and Shaun met at a BMF rally in Peterborough, introduced by their mutual friend Freddy.
At the time, Helen already had a boyfriend… but Shaun didn’t hold back he told her straight away that he was going to marry her.
And, as it turns out, he was right.
Not long after, Shaun proposed on one of their favourite dog walks in Yarwell, surrounded by open fields, cows, and wellies was perfectly them.
A Wedding Worth Waiting For
Like so many couples, their plans were delayed more than once.
But on 16th July 2022, they finally said their vows at the incredible Crowland Abbey.
And it was worth every second of the wait.
A Walk to Remember
One of the most special parts of the day?
Helen and her bridal party walked to the abbey.
It set the tone beautifully — relaxed, full of anticipation, and completely unforced.
No rushing, no pressure. Just the quiet build-up to something meaningful.
Inside, there were those lovely, honest moments I always look out for —
groom nerves, exchanged glances, and the kind of laughter that fills a space naturally.
No Posing, Just Real Moments
This was a day that didn’t need directing.
Aside from a handful of relaxed portraits, everything unfolded naturally — and that’s exactly how I photographed it.
Real moments as they happened:
The laughter between friends
Shots being passed around
Hugs, reactions, and those in-between seconds
A couple completely lost in their own little world
Nothing staged. Nothing forced. Just genuine memories.
A Garden Party to End the Day
After the ceremony, everyone made their way back to Helen and Shaun’s home and this is where the celebration really came into its own.
Think:
A hog roast
Straw bales for seating
Glasses of fizz flowing
Friends and family relaxing together in the garden
It felt less like a “wedding reception” and more like the best kind of summer party, the kind where everyone can truly be themselves.
The Dance Floor Moment
And then… the first dance.
Let’s just say — it didn’t go quite to plan.
But honestly? It couldn’t have been more perfect.
Helen and Shaun ended up falling over themselves laughing and it became one of those moments that everyone will remember far more than a perfectly choreographed routine.
Because that’s what the day was about…. joy, not perfection.
More Than Just a Photographer
From the moment I arrived, I was made to feel completely welcome not just as a photographer but as part of the day.
And that always makes a difference.
It allows me to blend in, to observe, and to capture everything honestly — without interruption.
Why This Wedding Meant So Much
This day was a reminder of why documentary photography matters.
It’s not about perfect poses or ticking off a shot list.
It’s about preserving how it felt:
The nerves
The laughter
The chaos
The love
Helen and Shaun’s wedding had all of that and more. Check out their wedding photo slideshow which all couples receive.
