Romantic Late-Summer Wedding at Shottle Hall, Derbyshire | Sophie & Reece

The exterior front of Shottle Hall as you walk up the driveway

If you’re dreaming of a wedding at Shottle Hall in Derbyshire, grab a cuppa and settle in as Sophie & Reece’s late-summer celebration is full of romantic, heartfelt moments.

I had the joy of photographing their day alongside Holly as I’ve always been her go to second photographer, capturing everything from Reece getting ready with his groomsmen to the magical first dance. This was my first time documenting an outdoor ceremony and the romantic setting among tall, golden grasses in September was absolutely dreamy.

From the laughter-filled prep to the emotional ceremony and intimate portraits, every moment told a story. Late summer light created the perfect glow for natural, timeless photographs — exactly what I love capturing for couples who want their day documented in a relaxed, storytelling style.

Working with Sophie and Reece reminded me why weddings are so special: it’s not just about the venue, flowers, or outfits, it’s about the connections, the love, and the memories that last forever.

Getting Ready at Shottle Hall

Reece and his groomsmen started the day in a relaxed, joyful atmosphere. We captured the small, candid moments — adjusting ties, sharing jokes, and the nervous excitement before the ceremony. These moments are the real heartbeat of a wedding day, setting the tone for all the beautiful moments that follow.

Sophie’s preparations were just as calm and heartfelt. She had a few quiet, reflective moments before putting on her gown, giving us the chance to capture some intimate, natural portraits. Every little detail — the shoes, the bouquet, the hair and makeup — was photographed with care, preserving memories that she and Reece will cherish forever.

A Dreamy Outdoor Ceremony

The ceremony was set outdoors among beautiful gardens overlooking the long grasses in soft September sunlight. The warm late-summer light added a romantic, natural glow, perfect for storytelling photography.

Friends and family were gathered around, sharing laughter and happy tears as Sophie and Reece exchanged their vows. This outdoor setting created a unique, relaxed atmosphere that made every photo feel alive and heartfelt.

Capturing these moments from different angles the exchange of rings, the laughter, the emotional glances meant that their story was told naturally and beautifully.

Portraits & Romantic Moments

After the ceremony, Sophie and Reece stole a few private moments for portraits. The golden grasses and late-summer sun created a dreamy backdrop for romantic, storytelling images.

We wandered through the grounds, capturing the couple walking hand in hand, laughing together, and sharing quiet moments away from the crowd. These portraits are the images couples treasure most because they feel natural, timeless, and deeply personal.

Celebrations & First Dance

The evening was full of laughter, joy, and love. From the first toast to the first dance, every moment was captured, even 30 minutes after the first dance, when emotions were still running high.

Guests danced, cheered and celebrated Sophie and Reece’s love, creating a warm, intimate vibe that carried through every image. These candid, documentary-style shots ensure their wedding story is complete from start to finish.

So I’m guessing by this point, you want to see the photos…… right, here we go with my favourites, giving a flavour into the day and how I work.
